WACTA 2007 3.5/4.5 Men’s Doubles tournament, sponsored by Ms. Yen Chan , Certified Senior Advisor, was successfully completed under the TD Butterfly Chong on December 8 at the Four Seasons Tennis Club. Here are winners and event pictures.

2007 WACTA Men’s Doubles 3.5 and 4.5+ Tournament will be held on December 8, 2007. This tournament runs from 7 pm to 12 midnight at the Four Seasons Tennis Club in Fairfax, Virginia. This tournament is sponsored by Ms. Yen Chan, Certified Senior Advisor. Ms. Chan has long been very supportive for WACTA events.

WACTA 2007-2008 Team Tennis Series (TTS) will be held at the Four Seasons Tennis Club on the following dates: Nov 10th, Dec 15th, Jan 12th, and Feb 23th (final). This event is a social-competition series event similar to the most popular WACTA ladder tournaments. Team spots are limited (to 8), please sent your Team registration ASAP. The acceptance of team registration are based on following order:

1. Team registration form must be completed/submitted (with 10 players

   on roster

   at least) by deadline Oct., 14. 07

2. Team with same name and same captain from previous year
3. Team with captain from previous year
4. Team with same name (to represent the same group) from previous year
5. WACTA sponsors, staffs, or well recognized members

WACTA 2007 3.0/4.0 Men’s Doubles tournament, sponsored by TECRO and OCAC, was successfully completed on September 22 at the Four Seasons Tennis Club. Deputy Representative Stanley Kao of TECRO and his wife presented trophies to winners. Congratulations to the trophy winners. WACTA president Chin-Ho Lien expressed special thanks to the representatives from TECRO and OCAC and also to the Tournament Director Miss Sabrina Liao and all other supporting staff. 2007 Scott Cup Singles Tournament, sponsored by Dr. Tsunie ChanChien, was successfully completed on August 20, 2007. There were over 70 players participating, Congratulations to all winners. Event pictures coming soon!

2007 CapStar SUmmerLadder Tournament, sponsored by Mr. John Lin, president of CapStar Commercial Realty, was successfully completed on August 11, 2007. After 3 months of exciting and fun tennis, this event has offered our members great opportunity to meet new players, to have family quality time and to improve tennis skills. sponsor Mr. John Lin, congratulated trophy winners and thanked WACTA staff for the hard work.

WACTA appreciated Tournament Director, David Zhang, Hsu-Kwang Hwang, Ken Chen and TL Hsu for their dedication and tremendous effort in making this event a great success. 2007 Scott Cup Singles is to be held on August 18 and 19 at the Four Seasons Tennis Club. This tournament is sponsored by Dr. Tsunie ChanChien . The tournament is open to members only. WACTA Summer Family/Tennis Camp was successfully completed on June 25. Over 110 WACTA campers, enjoyed the stay in Salisbury State University. Faced with inclement weather, campers exhibited resilient capability to complete tennis clinic sessions, to compete zealously in tournament, and to enjoy various activities the camp has to offer. WACTA officials thank campers for being extremely patient with the inconvenience the weather has brought on us. Special thanks go to Camp Director Tina Kao and his husbond Robert Yen; Camp Tournament Director Shanna Lin/Jian Liu, Clinic Director Huei-Hsiung Yang; and Eric Tong for organizing golf outings; and Steven Tan for photographic; 美玲 for Iron Chelf demostration, and 詹淑妃 for Sophia dance studio; and Grace Chang for Bingo games.

WACTA 2007 Mixed Doubles tournament, sponsored by OCAC and TECRO, was successfully completed on June 2 at the Four Seasons Tennis Club.

The 4th Asian Games tennis tournament was successfully completed. The new winning team is Thai Tennis Team! They defeated WACTA in the finals, congratulations!

We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for coming out, participated in the event. Many, many kids enjoyed the wonderful Block Party, sponsored by USTA - Mid-Atlantic. We were praying for good weather and it turned to be a perfect outdoor weather. We thank Rachel, Janine of USTA- Virginia, Regional Community Development, for running this great party and filming the Games; and we also thank Enid, Shantha representing USTA Mid-Atlantic's Multicultural Participation Committee came to celebrate with us.

This year’s Mixed Doubles event, proudly sponsored by TECRO & OCAC, is coming up right at the corner! We are combining all levels together in one event night, 6/2/2007 at the Four Seasons Tennis Club. In addition, we will be using a new format- a combined level instead of individual level as previous year. There will be 4 groups, combined level of 6.5, 7.5, 8.0 and 8.5+. We think this change should bring more flexibility and dynamics into the competition.

The tournament is open to members only. If you like to compete but don't have a partner, you can register as an individual. The Tournament Director, Mr. Wen-Bing Shiu, will try to find you a partner, who can be another member from the pool of individual registration. A registration of two people as a team has priority over separate registrations of two individuals who need an assigned partner.

WACTA is planning to host the annual family summer camp from Thursday, June 21st through Sunday, June 24thd at the Salisbury State University, Maryland.  This family camp has been offering a lot of activities for Adults and kids, in addition to the tennis clinic.  The location of this family camp is located approximately 120 miles from Washington, DC, and about 30 miles from Ocean City and Rehoboth beach/outlet shopping mall. 

There are many amenities at the University campus, such as 10 outdoor tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball diamond, volleyball courts, indoor tennis courts, and a swimming pool. Camp participants will enjoy many activities like tennis clinic, tennis tournament, golf, dance party, movies, outlet mall shopping, beach, etc.  The camp is open for registration now.  Register before 4/30/2007 can enjoy discount price, and the registration deadline is 5/31/2007. Please check out the details ,which include the registration form, and send it to summercamp@wacta.org.  Space is limited; it would serve your best interest to register as soon as possible.  WACTA is also holding the right to change the date and/or cancel the camp due to the unforeseen conditions.

We are excited to announce that WACTA summer ladder, one of the most popular WACTA events, will be proudly sponsored by Mr. John Lin, president of CapStar Commercial Realty. It will be called CapStar Summer Ladder. 

We will kick off CapStar Summer Ladder on Saturday, May 12th, 2007, and follow by 2 in-door competitions on Jun 16th, Jul 14th; and conclude with a final on Aug 11th. CapStar Summer Ladder will take a maximum of 40 registered teams (all doubles, all 3.0+ skill levels, men, women, or mixed). They will be assigned initial ranking and divided into 5 divisions. There will be four indoor tournaments held at the Four Seasons Tennis Club on the following dates:  May 12th, June 16th, July 14th, and August 11th.  Dinner box for each player will be provided at each indoor tournament. In between the indoor tournaments, every team is encouraged and required to challenge other teams and accept as many challenges from other teams as possible.  Please check out the details regarding the tournament rules.

The $60 registration fee is due when players arrive at the first indoor tournament on May 12th. WACTA Annual Banquet and Election was once again successfully completed on 3/10/07 at New Fortune Restaurant. The banquet was attended by over 240 members and guests. As previously stated, we were planning to top last year’s success; indeed, it turned out to be another spectacular, entertaining gala.

In addition to WACTA official’s elections, this year’s program showcased many talents our members possess. There were over 70 performers participated in the entertaining/fun competition segment. More and more groups exhibited their talents in singing and dancing and also showing off dazzling outfits to make this event warm, hilarious and bringing everyone together for another year.  Many thanks go to these groups, each one of them. WACTA Board of Directors and staff also contributed a group dancing number, a cha-cha “I want to dance with you”; and not to be outperformed, sponsors came out swinging with another strong, energetic, and yet fashionable hip-hop piece to bring an end to this segment.

WACTA appreciated all the performers for their efforts in making this event such a great success. Special thanks go to segment hosts, Shelley Xu and James Hsu; DJ Chi Chang; special guest performers, Stanley Kao, Ming and Jackson Yang and Master of Ceremony plus program director Shih-Chun Lien.

WACTA president Chin-Ho Lien and executive secretary Eric Chen were elected to continue another year’s work.  The newly elected Directors of Board for 2007 are Hsu-Kwang Hwang, Ken Chen, Wen-Bing Shiu, Shing-Bong Chen, Tina Kao, Guan-Hwa Chen and Chin-Ho Lien.

Rho-Psi Foundation, Inc. provides funding to the Washington Area Chinese School for introducing and teaching tennis to Chinese youth who are new to the sport of tennis. Rho-Psi Foundation, Inc. asks WACTA working together to solicit interested Chinese schools in the Greater Washington DC areas to submit applications for funding.

The proposal should be post marked no later than April 15, 2007 and mailed to Huei-hsiung Yang, 2287 Glenmore Terrace, Rockville, Maryland 20850. The chosen schools will be announced on June 1, 2007.

2007 WACTA Vision Cup – Women’s Doubles Tournament will be held on Saturday, April 14, at the Four Seasons Tennis Club. This tournament is sponsored by Dr. Robert Chu, a well-known ophthalmologist in Washington Area and a WACTA member.  The tournament is open to members only. Please specify your competition division (3.0, 3.5, 4.0 or 4.5), fill out the registration form and e-mail to Mr. Hsu-Kwang Hwang, tournament director, at women@wacta.org . If you don't receive an email confirmation of your submission within two days, please email Mr. Hsu-Kwang Hwang at women@wacta.org.

Registration deadline is COB 4/8/2007. Registration fee, $15 per person, is due when you check in on 4/14/2007. Dinner boxes will be served. Additional dinner boxes, $5 each, can be reserved with Mr. Hus-Kwang Hwang.

WACTA 2007 spring social tennis will be held on Saturday, April 7^th from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Four Seasons Tennis Club, VA. This event is open to both members and non-members. Formats include scheduled and non-scheduled time slots. You are welcome to invite non-member friends to play and enjoy this social event. Please fill out the registration form and e-mail to social tennis director, at social@wacta.org. Spaces are limited, please register early.

You will pay for the event when you check in for the tournament and the social event. The registration fee is $15 per player.  Dinner box will be served.

The 2006-2007 WACTA CapStar TTS
final tournament was held at four Season Tennis Club on 2/24/07. After 5
hours of competition, Racqueteers and Wintergreen won the title of A and B
leagues, respectively. Players:

Our annual election/banquet is fast approaching. This year it will be held on 3/10 Saturday 6:00pm at New Fortune Chinese Restaurant. We need you to mark your calendar and get ready to celebrate this annual ball with all tennis lovers and friends. Last year’s banquet was a spectacular event with many entertaining performance. It is almost outrageous to say that we are planning to top that! But we are actually planning on it! We cordially invite you to be there to witness this yourself. The ticket price is $20 each and can be purchased from Board of Directors/staff now. If you wish to reserve a whole table, please also let us know ASAP.

We will include those candidates in the election procedure, when we get all the information. Please send in by the nomination deadline Feb. 23. WACTA will need more new bloods to help us usher in another exciting year!
