Results of WACTA sponsored Chinese Team in Asian Tournament, May 21^th, 2005

The Second Annual Asian Games was held on a beautiful Saturday on May 21st.  The sun was shining all day.  There were plenty of food and drinks and plenty of great company from each of the six participating teams: 



Vietnam,Thailand,WACTA Chinese,Philippines,India, and Korea.  The Chinese team was sponsored by WACTA and organized by Shelley Xu.  All players on the WACTA team have Chinese ancestry or have a spouse who has Chinese ancestry.  The competition was neck and neck.  At the end of the day, the WACTA Chinese  team won third place, behind Vietnamand Thailand. The members of the WACTA Chinese
team were:  Hyojoon Heo, Vickie Ly-Heo, Michelle Lee, Yiwei Xiong, Tina Ding, John Lin, John Hsu,
Eric Zhang, David Zhang, Shenbao Qiu, Jameson Lee, Adam Wong, Tony Yeh, Tony Chan, Yi-Cheng Wang, Xiao Wei, and Sirapiragasam Sanj.  There were many close games.

WACTA sponsored Asian Tournament,
May 21^th, 2005

WACTA is proudly sponsoring a team to play in the upcoming
Asian Tournament, please participate in cheering our team and have fun watching
first class tennis matches among Asian teams. The Tournament will be held in
Jefferson District Park at 7900 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia.  Tournament
date is May 21, 2005, from 8AM to 5PM. The Asian Tournament this year fields
teams of Chinese, Indian, Korean, Filipino, Thai, and Vienamese.  The Chinese
team is captained by our own Shelley Xu. The Asian Tournament features the
following competitions:

• Men’s Doubles combined 7.0
• Men’s Doubles combined 8.0
• Men’s Doubles Open
• Women’s Doubles 8.0
• Mixed Doubles Open

2005 WACTA Mixed Doubles 3.5 and 4.5 is to be held on
Saturday, June 18 at the Four Seasons Tennis Club. This tournament is
sponsored by
Capstar
Commercial Realty.  The tournament is open to members only.
Qualifications and rules are described in the

detail file. Please fill out the registration

11, 2005 and registration fee, $15 per person, is due when you check in on
6/18/2005. Dinner boxes will be served. Additional dinner boxes, $5 each,
can be reserved with Mr. TL Hsu.

2005 Summer Tennis/Family Camp -
June 30^th through
July 3^rd,
2005

WACTA and CCACC are joining
force to hold this year’s Summer Tennis/Family Camp which has been scheduled
from Thursday, June 30^th through Sunday, July 3^rd
at the Salisbury State University, Maryland.  The University is
approximately 120 miles from Washington, DC, and about 30 miles from Ocean
City and Rehoboth beach/outlet shopping mall.  There are many amenities at
the University campus, such as 10 outdoor tennis courts, basketball courts,
a baseball diamond, volleyball courts, indoor tennis courts, and a swimming
pool. Camp participants will enjoy many activities like tennis clinic,
tennis tournament, golf, dance party, movies, bingo, outlet mall shopping,
beach, etc..  The camp is open for registration now.  Register before
5/15/2005 can enjoy discount price, and the registration deadline is
5/31/2005. Please check out the

details including the registration form.  Space is limited; it would
serve your best interest to register as soon as possible.

by Rho Phi Foundation. They are to be held on Month="4">Saturday, April 16, 2005 at the Four Seasons Tennis
Club. Both events are open to members only. Please note that the player’s age limit for Senior
tournament has changed: 55 for male players and 50 for female players.
Seats are first-come, first-served. Qualifications and rules are described in

WACTA 2005 annual meeting was held on
March 12. There were about 210 members, guests and sponsors enjoyed an
evening of delicious food, dancing and singing. This is WACTA’s 14^th
anniversary. Here are

and the directors are: Chia-Chou Chang, Shing-Bong Chen, Roger
Hwang, Jian Liu and T. L. Hsu.  Mr. Kan Chang gladly accepts the appointment as
Executive Secretary.

Annual Banquet and Meeting, March 12, 2005

2005
WACTA annual banquet and election will be held on Saturday, March 12 at
the New Fortune Restaurant in Gaithersburg, Maryland. In addition to enjoy
delicious food and share fond memories, we will also elect president and
board of directors for a one-year term starting April 1. This is the
biggest event of all WACTA activities. If you have not attended an annual
banquet before, you have to come and see yourself. You are welcome to
bring your family or friends to join us. Please reserve and purchase

Vision Cup Women’s Doubles tournament will be held on February 26 from 7
p.m. to midnight at the Four Seasons Tennis Club in Fairfax, Virginia. The
tournament is sponsored by Dr. Robert Chu, ophthalmologist and WACTA
member.  The tournament is open to members only. Please specify your
competition division (3.0, 3.5, 4.0 or 4.5+), fill out the registration form
and e-mail to Mr. Jack Lin, tournament director, at women@wacta.org.
 If you don't receive a
confirmation after two days, please re-send your registration and call
Jack at 703-502-0129. Registration deadline is Thursday, February 17.

Membership Information Update for the Yearbook 2005     By: January 11, 2005

If your membership information need to be updated,
please send an e-mail including phone number to Mr. Iming Chen at webmaster@wacta.org 
by January 11. Your current WACTA membership information is
available on the 2004 Yearbook and the web site’s Member Only section.
You can add a new member, delete a current member, or update existing
member information under your ID. If your or your child’s Chinese name
is not in the database, you may want to add them to the database. WACTA
announces tournament results including trophy winners’ names on local
Chinese newspapers. It would be helpful, if winners’ Chinese names are
correct and available to WACTA news writers.

Advanced Youth Tennis Scholarship Sponsored By Rho-Psi Foundation

Rho-Psi Foundation will offer scholarship to advanced
young Chinese players in the Great Washington Area this year. We encourage
all Chinese players who are still in school (high, middle, or elementary
schools) to apply. Special consideration will be given to the members of
WACTA. Four advanced players (two boys and two girls) will be selected by a
special committee from WACTA for scholarship. The first girl and boy selected
will receive $600 and the second boy and girl will receive $400. Please fill
out the application
form and send it to the following address before January 1, 2005.
