WACTA Youth Programs

WACTA 2010 Youth Intermediate Programs

Thanks to continuing support from the Rho Psi Foundation Inc, WACTA is offering the 2010 Youth Intermediate Programs for the twelfth consecutive year. Intermediate players are those who can serve, keep accurate scores, and play out complete matches.
Three venues are currently being considered for this program:


First venue will be held in at the Adidas Tennis Camp at University of Mary Washington is located in Fredericksburg, VA. For this Adidas Camp, only high school student can register. The qualified player, who has been selected in school team, will register a session held on 6/20-6/24 or on 6/27-7/1/2010. The estimated cost for Adidas camp is $695.
Second venue will be held in at the Adidas Tennis Camp at University of Maryland Baltimore County, is located near Baltimore, MD. For this Adidas Camp, ten to 18 years old student can register. The qualified player who has been selected in school team or play in USTA, state, or county tournament, will register a session held 6/20-6/25, 7/11-7/16, and 7/18-7/23, 2010. The estimated cost for Adidas camp is $785.


Third venue will held in at the Van Der Meer Tennis Camp at Mercersburg Academy is located on Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. For the Van Der Meer Camp, ten to 18 years old student can register. The qualified player who has been selected in school team or play in USTA, state, or county tournament, will register a session held 8/1-8/6/2010. The estimated cost for Van Der Meer Tennis camp is $910.
All the qualified students will get scholarship from Rho Psi Foundation Inc. for $100 when he or she completes the training program.

The application deadline for the junior program is May 1, 2010 and total of 36 positions are being considered for Adidas or Van Der Meer tennis camp. The program is designed for intermediate players who are Chinese Americans, born on January 1, 1993 or later but he/ she should be 10 year older. Selection criteria will be based on skilled level and potential by a committee member. Qualified student will be announced and send to you by e-mail. 2010 Rho Psi Foundation Advanced Youth Tennis Scholarship

Rho-Psi Foundation awards scholarship to advanced Chinese youth players, in the Great Washington Area, who demonstrate outstanding competition results in playing in school teams as well as USTA sponsored tournaments.

For 2010, four advanced players (two boys and two girls) will be selected by a special committee from WACTA for scholarship. The first girl and boy selected will receive $600 and the second boy and girl will receive $400. We encourage all Chinese players who are still in school (high, middle, or elementary schools). Special consideration will be given to the members of WACTA.

In addition, Rho-Psi Foundation will offer ProPrep awards for promising players who are national ranking and have been chosen to a national training program this year. The applicants have to demonstrate the capability and desire to become professional players. The winner will receive $1,000 scholarship.

Chinese American Youth Tennis Program
The Beginner Program at Chinese School
Spring Semester, 2009

Background: Rho-Psi Foundation, Inc. provides funding to the Washington Area Chinese School for introducing and teaching tennis to Chinese youth who are new to the sport of tennis. Rho-Psi Foundation, Inc. asks WACTA working together to solicit interested Chinese schools in the Greater Washington DC areas to submit applications for funding.

Eligibility: Any registered Chinese school in the Greater Washington DC area is invited to apply for the grant. Each school can only apply for one grant for this proposal.

Grant Amount: Each chosen school will receive a grant in the amount of $200 - 250 for the spring semester 2009. Upto Ten (10) schools will be chosen. The funding can be used to pay for any expenses related to the program, such as fee for the coaches; purchases of tennis balls, rackets, and other training equipment.

Requirements: Formal tennis instructor for beginners is required. A minimum of 6 students is required and each student should receive at least 8 hours of training in the spring semester of 2009. Each school should reserve at least two tennis courts for the program. The school and its coaching staff assume the full responsibility of the students’ safety; WACTA is not responsible for the safety of the students.

Proposal Preparation: Complete applications form and have it signed by the organizer and the principal of the school. A summary of your teaching program could be included (optional).

Evaluation Criteria and Deadlines: Up to ten (10) schools will be chosen based on the merits of the program. Please pay close attention to the instructions for proposal preparation. The proposal should be post marked no later than May 31, 2009 and mailed to Huei-hsiung Yang, 2287 Glenmore Terrace, Rockville, Maryland 20850. The chosen schools will be announced on June 19, 2009.

May is National Tennis Month and its time to play, turn up your game and share your passion for the sport! USTA Mid-Atlantic Northern Virginia division will host a USTA NJTL Regional Rally and Tennis Block Party on Saturday, May 30 at Lake Newport Tennis Courts in Reston, VA. WACTA is in the process of organizing a team of 25 youth players to compete with other regional tennis teams. We are looking for boys and girls tennis players from 10 to 14 years old with intermediate and advance level players. Following the Regional Rally, there will be a tennis block party for all the kids. Please come out and join the tennis lovers for this fun event! Please see the attached flyer for detail address.

WACTA is also looking for volunteers to help out at this tennis event. The volunteers will keep track of scores for each player or feed balls to the kids. If you can help out, please contact WACTA coordinator: Li-Ping Hwang (see above contact info).

2008 WACTA Intermediate Youth Programs

Thanks to continuing financial support from the Rho Psi Foundation Inc, WACTA is offering the 2008 Intermediate Youth Programs for the eleven consecutive years.  Intermediate players are those who can serve, keep accurate scores, and play out complete matches. The objective of the program is to enhance their ability to play competitive tennis in school teams as well as USTA sponsored tournaments.

The Nike Tennis Camp at Salisbury University is located on Maryland's Eastern Shore and will be directed by Randy Halfpap. For the Nike Camp, WACTA will register all the qualified players in the session held between July 6 and July 11, 2008. The estimated cost for the Nike Tennis Camp is $775. We are negotiating with camp director for a group rate. A student will receive $100 scholarship from Rho Psi Foundation Inc. and WACTA when he or she completes the training program (For details check www.ussportscamps.com).

WACTA's youth programs

WACTA’s youth programs need your support.
For the last eight years, Pho-Psi Foundation have financially supported WACTA tennis program in Chinese school around Washington D.C. area. To the Chinese youngsters who want improving their tennis skills, WACTA has worked with tennis camp around the area creating an opportunity and scholarship assistant for them. In addition, The Foundation provides scholarship to those who was ranked in USTA Mid-Atlantic Region and even national-wide.

WACTA is a growing and become a strong organization. It membership is increasing in a rapid rate. WACTA has ambition to expand and extend its youth program for producing more players who will join high school teams and compete regionally and nationally. To do that, WACTA needs financial support from you.

With a support, WACTA can continue to provide its Chinese-American Youth Tennis Program (CAYTP) to assist youth of Chinese descent who strive for higher achievement. There are three separate programs in CAYTP.
